Hannah and Jakob Schubert – Road to the Innsbruck World Championships

As an experienced athlete, he is one of the firm favorites. She is hot on his heels. Together they are unstoppable. The Schubert siblings are intensively preparing for the event of the year: The Climbing World Championships in their home town of Innsbruck.

“The World Championships in Innsbruck mean a lot to me. There's something really special about having the World Championships in your home town. The pressure is more intense at home but, overall, the anticipation totally makes up for it all.” At the moment, Hannah Schubert can frequently be found at the Kletterzentrum Innsbruck climbing gym, together with her brother Jakob and the entire Austrian climbing team. Together, the athletes are preparing for Innsbruck's big event. We want to introduce the two Mammut athletes in a little more detail.

What got you into climbing?

Jakob:
My godfather took me to the climbing gym in Innsbruck, where I was immediately asked if I wanted to practice with the Innsbruck Climbing Team. I took up the offer and as I had so much fun training, I never stopped. :)
Hannah: Jakob got me climbing 14 years ago. I watched him and knew right away that I wanted to do that too!

What are your dreams and goals?

Jakob:
To climb more 9a+/9b+ routes, or 8b+/8c boulders. My competition dream is to win the title at my home World Championships in Innsbruck in September 2018 and a medal at the Olympic Games. Apart from that, I also want to celebrate even more World Cup victories!

Hannah: Climbing: Become World Champion, win World Cups, win Overall World Cup, take part/win a medal in the Olympics (I'm allowed to dream)
Personal life: Family, children

Your top achievements?

Jakob:
2012 World Champion Lead, 2016 Vice World Champion Lead, 2011 and 2014 Lead Overall WC Winner, world record number of World Cup victories in a row (7 Lead World Cup victories in 2011)

Hannah: Youth World Champion Lead  2012 (Singapore) and 2014 (New Caledonia), 8th place 2018 WC-Lead (Chamonix),  5th place WC-Lead 2016 (Kranj), 10th place 2017 Overall World Cup Lead

Mammut means to you?

Jakob:
My most important sponsor, who always has my back and accompanies me through thick and thin!
Hannah:
A lot! Mammut is not only my oldest and most loyal sponsor, but also a cool brand, which is perfect for climbing enthusiasts, outdoor lovers and mountaineers and offers everything you need or want!

Hobbies apart from climbing?

Jakob:
Various ball sports, traveling, computer games (mostly Hearthstone and Overwatch at the moment)
Hannah:
Baking is my biggest passion and I'm always on the lookout for healthy and simple recipes without sugar so that I can combine this hobby with the conscious and healthy diet that a competitive athlete needs.

One of my favorite recipes:

Coconut and poppy seed muffins

  • 150 g applesauce

  • 1 banana

  • 50 g low-fat quark

  • 50 g oats

  • 15 g coconut flakes

  • 25 g ground nuts

  • 10 g ground poppy seeds

  • 5 g baking powder

  • Cinnamon, gingerbread spice, chopped nuts, etc.

First, mix all the wet ingredients together and then stir in the dry ingredients, pour into molds and bake at 355°F (180°C) for about 20 minutes.
