Outdoor & Social is an outdoor trade training event providing workshops and practical sessions designed to increase retail staff knowledge and confidence in outdoor products and skills. All sessions are delivered by qualified experts and professionals and are free of charge for all retail staff, with the aim of improving the quality of information delivered to consumers.
Participants have the option to camp on-site and gain first-hand experience using outdoor equipment in real conditions. During the day, technical briefings and practical demonstrations are provided, followed by guided activities where staff can apply what they have learned.
The learning sessions delivered at Edale form the first phase of a structured education and training system for outdoor retail staff, recognised by both the IOL and the OIA. The programme covers core product knowledge areas such as footwear, sleeping bags, tents, clothing, and cooking systems, including materials, construction, use, maintenance, and appropriate application.
